Orange adds drama

By | July 12th, 2015|Colours & Patterns, Lampshades|

Using unusual colour adds drama to an interior.   Looking at my very dull lounge, I decided it needed an uplift. A decorative table lamp and a stunning shade, in a cheerful accent colour, adds interest to any room. I have always loved the deep, warm colours of  Reds, Oranges, and Purples. After searching through the auction houses and second hand furniture shops, I found a perfect brass table lamp base. The shape of the shade I used was a straight empire, this complemented the straight column base. Orange is an effective colour to use in my north, cold, facing room. With that in mind, I decided on a burnt orange silk which is a warm colour that brings a lovely glow in the evening making the atmosphere warm and cosy. To add a little more interest, I had chosen to smock the shade. When I began, I realized that it could take me a

Time to photo shoot the lampshades

By | May 24th, 2015|Colours & Patterns, Handmade, Lampshades|

I'm having wonderful fun today out side in the sunshine. I thought the sun gave a good opportunity to do a photo shoot of my new lampshades for the web site www.bohzaar.co.uk. While the professionals were taking shots,  I crept off to take my own photographs with the Ipad, so here is one of them in the tree's. This is a silk and cotton gathered shade, with a gold silk lining. Doesn't it look pretty in the sunshine? Still playing with the ipad, this blue and turquoise Ikat gathered shade with a blue silk lining which will also be on the web site www.bohzaar.co.uk very soon.

RHS Malvern Show

By | May 22nd, 2015|Colours & Patterns, Handmade, Lampshades|

We had a fantastic time at the RHS Malvern Spring Show, all the visitors that visited our stand loved the vibrant shades. One of the favorites was this statement lampshade, this was covered with a Petite Mode signature fabric from bluebellgray which has painterly brushstrokes in bright, popping colours, I trimed this with the Verena pompoms, to add extra interest.

Large bowed empire lampshade

By | April 19th, 2015|Colours & Patterns, Handmade, Lampshades, Trends|

Yes, I have finished, the large bowed empire lampshade covered with  a Bluebellgray fabric called " Flower Field Ecru". Depicting a collection of wild flowers swaying  in a summer breeze.(Click Here).  I am really pleased with the way it looks, the fabric works well with the large shade. I also have the fabrics' Saffron Butterfly and Petite Mode by Bluebellgray. I think I will have a go at making those fabrics into large lampshades. Perhaps I will take them to my stand at The RHS Malvern Spring Festival. All ready to go.

Blooms in bold designs for Spring 2015

By | April 11th, 2015|Colours & Patterns, Handmade, Lampshades, Trends|

The trend for Spring 2015, seems very much for bold blooms, with Designers Guild Shanghai garden, a garden in blossom with trailing roses and peonies. Liberties new collection inspired by 'The Secret Garden' bringing wild flowers into your home, and Blue Bell Greys' most stunning collection of bold blooms. I have been spoilt for choice. The lampshade I have just been working on  Blue Bell Greys "Flower Field Ecru" fabric. A collection of wild flowers swaying  in a summer breeze, transports you to a country flower field. This looks stunning as a large bowed empire. The size of the shade is perfect for the pattern on the fabric. As you can see I am just finishing off the sewing, excited to see the finished lampshade
